PLEASE NOTE: We provide the below information about your state as a courtesy, but cannot guarantee its accuracy because laws are continually subject to change. If you have questions about the information we have provided below, please contact your licensing agency directly. Your state board will hold you ultimately responsible for knowing the laws that apply to you. We do not deviate from our posted return and exchange policy if you later determine that a course you enrolled in is not valid for CEs in your jursidiction. You may also visit https://www.abmp.com/practitioners/state-requirements for a link to all state massage boards and rules.
NCBTMB requires that you complete 24 hours of Continuing Education classes every two years. Three hours of the 24 hours must be in ethics. (Three hours of research is no longer required as of February 2019.) No more than 4 hours of the 24 hours may be in self-care. All NCBTMB CEs can be taken through home study or online courses through the Institute of Somatic Therapy, provider #280672-00.
AMTA and ABMP require that you take 48 hours of Massage Therapy CEs every four years. Both Massage Therapy agencies allow all CEs to be taken through home study or online courses through the Institute of Somatic Therapy.

Michigan Massage Therapy Continuing Education Requirements:
Michigan Massage Therapists will need eighteen (18) hours of continuing education for each 3-year license cycle. A minimum of 1 hour of continuing education in the area of pain and symptom management and 2 hours in professional ethics or boundaries are required. Additionally, effective June 1, 2022, one hour in Implicit Bias Training is required. Our Diversity and Cultural Awareness course meets the requirements outlined in R 338.7004, Rule 4 (3) (a) (i) which states that courses that include "diversity and inclusion initiatives, and cultural sensitivity" meet this requirement.
CE Broker: At this time, Michigan massage therapists can have a free online account with CE Broker, and can self report their course completions in order to track their CEs. Michigan is not currently allowing CE providers to report your hours on your behalf.
Michigan Massage Therapy Continuing Education Courses Accepted:
The Michigan Board of Massage Therapy accepts courses that are approved by the NCBTMB. As such, our courses are valid for your Michigan CE needs.
Michigan Human Trafficking Requirement: The Michigan Board of Massage Therapy requires all licensees to complete training in Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness. Our course is valid for that requirement. To see details of our Human Trafficking course, or to enroll, click here.
Michigan Implicit Bias Training Requirement: Effective June 1, 2022, one hour in Implicit Bias Training is required for Michigan renewals as outlined in R 338.7004, Rule 4 (3) (a) (i) which states that courses that include "diversity and inclusion initiatives, and cultural sensitivity" meet this requirement.. Our Diversity and Cultural Awareness course most likely meets the requirement. Please oonfirm with your state board.
Michigan Pain and Symptom Management Requirement: You are required to obtain at least one hour in "pain and symptom management". We believe that a number of our Pathology courses should meet that requirement, such as our Sciatic Pain, Plantar Fasciitis, Morton Foot Syndrome, and Shoulder Dysfunction. The board gives a broad definition of what these courses can encompass. "A licensee shall earn at least 1 hour of continuing education in the area of pain and symptom management. Continuing education hours in pain and symptom management may include, but are not limited to, courses in behavior management, behavior modification, stress management, and clinical applications, as they relate to professional practice."
