Maryland Massage Therapy CE Renewal Package — 25 CE Hours

Maryland Massage Therapy Continuing Education Requirements

Maryland requires massage therapists to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, with specific topics required as part of that total. Continuing education must be completed by October of even-numbered renewal years.

Required CE breakdown:

• 3 hours in professional ethics or jurisprudence
• 3 hours in communicable disease education, including HIV/AIDS
• 2 hours in diversity, cultural competency, or implicit bias (we only have approval for 1 CE hour as of Sept 2026 awaiting approval by NCBTMB). Please take another course to complete the requirement
• 16 hours in massage-related courses approved by the Board
• A current CPR certificate must be held at the time of renewal
• Implicit Bias training is required for first-time renewals and counts toward the diversity training requirement

Completion window: Courses must be completed between November 1, 2024, and the date you submit your renewal application.

Elective Courses

Maryland requires 16 hours of elective continuing education pertaining to human anatomy. The Fibromyalgia and Shoulder Dysfunction courses in this package are designed to meet this requirement.

Implicit Bias and Structural Racism Training

In 2025, Maryland enacted a new law, Health Occupations §1–225, requiring certain health professionals to complete training in implicit bias and structural racism. A 1-hour course in Implicit Bias and Structural Racism is required for your first renewal after initial licensure. This requirement applies only to the first renewal after April 1, 2026, and the course counts toward your continuing education hours.

Important: The Institute of Somatic Therapy cannot provide this course. It must be taken from one of Maryland's approved course providers.

CPR Requirement

At the time of renewal, you must hold a current CPR certification at the level required for your credential:

• Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs): Healthcare Provider Level
• Registered Massage Practitioners (RMPs): Basic CPR

CPR certification is not included in this package.

CE Exemption for New Licensees

Licensees who received their initial license on or after November 1, 2025, are exempt from CE requirements for this renewal cycle. However, they must still:

• Renew their license
• Maintain a valid CPR certification
• Complete the Implicit Bias and Structural Racism training

Provider Approvals: The Institute of Somatic Therapy is an NCBTMB Approved Provider (#280672-00), approved by Florida (#MCE-326) and New York (#0019), and is a CE Broker Provider (#50-1116). Courses are also accepted by AMTA, ABMP, and most individual states.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this package cover everything I need to renew in Maryland?
