Institute of Somatic Therapy is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider. Our NCBTMB continuing education Approved Provider Number is 280672-00. Our Florida provider number is MCE326 (50-1116 on CE Broker). Our New York provider number is 0019. Our Massage Therapy CE hours are valid for ABMP, AMTA, and most states.

NCBTMB requires that you complete 24 hours of Continuing Education classes every two years. Three hours of the 24 hours must be in ethics. (Three hours of research is no longer required as of February 2019.) No more than 4 hours of the 24 hours may be in self-care. All NCBTMB CEs can be taken through home study or online courses through the Institute of Somatic Therapy, provider #280672-00.
AMTA and ABMP require that you take 48 hours of Massage Therapy CEs every four years. Both Massage Therapy agencies allow all CEs to be taken through home study or online courses through the Institute of Somatic Therapy.

Maryland Massage Therapy Continuing Education Requirements:
Maryland requires massage therapists to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, with specific topics required as part of the total. These must be completed by October of even‑numbered renewal years.
• 3 hours in professional ethics or jurisprudence
• 3 hours in communicable disease education, including HIV/AIDS
• 2 hours in diversity, cultural competency, or implicit bias
• 16 hours in massage‑related courses approved by the Board
• A current CPR certificate must be held at the time of renewal
• Implicit Bias training is required for first‑time renewals and counts toward the diversity training requiremen
Maryland Massage Therapy Continuing Education Courses Accepted:

Courses must be completed between November 1, 2024, and the date you submit your renewal application.
Mandatory CE Courses
Licensees and registrants must complete:
- 3 hours – Ethics or Jurisprudence
- 3 hours – Communicable Diseases (including HIV/AIDS)
- 2 hours – Diversity, Cultural Competency, or Implicit Bias
Elective Courses
- 16 hours of elective continuing education pertaining to the human anatomy.
Implicit Bias and Structural Racism Training
A 1-hour course in Implicit Bias and Structural Racism is required for your first renewal after initial licensure. This course counts toward your continuing education hours.

CPR Requirement
At the time of renewal, you must hold a current CPR certification:
- Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs):Healthcare Provider Level
- Registered Massage Practitioners (RMPs):Basic CPR
CE Exemption for New Licensees
Licensees who received their initial license on or after November 1, 2025, are exempt from CE requirements for this renewal cycle. However, they must still:
- Renew their license
- Maintain a valid CPR certification
- Complete the Implicit Bias and Structural Racism training
NEW LAW: IMPLICIT BIAS AND STRUCTURAL RACISM TRAINING
In 2025, Maryland enacted a law, Health Occupations §1–225, requiring certain health professionals to complete training in implicit bias and structural racism. The requirement applies only to the first renewal after April 1, 2026.We cannot provide this course for you as it needs to be taken from one of Marylands approved course providers.
