Institute of Somatic Therapy is approved by Florida (#MCE-326), and New York (#0019). New York therapists, please note that spa therapy is not valid for New York. New York massage therapists may not use wraps, scrubs, masks, or any form of exfoliation products. Our courses are also valid for AMTA, ABMP, and most individual states. Some states limit how many hours can be done online or by home study. Please refer to our State Guidelines section for specific information about your state. Laws can and do change, and your state will hold you responsible for knowing the laws that apply to you. These courses were approved by Florida as an approved distance learning course for required hours of "relevant to massage therapy" category (normally required live classroom) hours for the 8/31/2021 renewal cycle. Completions after 8/31/2021 will be reported as "General" hours, not "relevant to massage therapy" hours.

Course Description: One of the largest growth areas of bodywork has been in the use of spa treatments. The benefits to your client are many, including removal of dead skin cells, detoxifying the body, mineralizing the skin, and relaxing your client.
When you take this course, you will study the theory and business of spa practices, including business & marketing, benefits & contraindications of a variety of techniques, and properties of various salts and clay. You will learn a variety of spa therapy techniques, including four types of exfoliations (dry brush, loofa, oil based salt glow and water based body polish), body wraps (aloe, several types of mud, and seaweed), face and scalp treatments, and how to help stimulate cellulite removal. Our training teaches technique for dry room facilities. Of course, if you have a shower, your client may use it instead.
We often get questions about the face treatment portion of this course. The main purpose of the face treat is to continue to pamper the client, and fill time, while the body wrap is working, not to substitute for a facial. Massage therapists cannot legally perform facials. You must go to esthetician training to do facials. What we do on the face is a simple face treatment that includes cleansing, mask, and moisturizer. No extractions, no chemicals, etc. If you believe that even this violates the massage regulations in your state, feel free to substitute a face massage. It is always recommended that before starting any new specialty, you verify the laws in your state.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Are your online courses downloadable to my computer? You must be logged in on our website to view at least some of the course materials. Many of our courses do have some downloadable files attached.
Will your online courses work on my phone, tablet, or other device? Yes. Since technology continues its rapid pace forward, it is impossible for us to provide a current and complete list of all devices on which our courses will work. We invite you to take our free sample course so that you can personally test if the online content works on your device.
Can I print the online courses if I want a hard copy? Most browsers allow you to print screen shots of any web page you visit but often the formatting leaves much to be desired. If you prefer hard copies, you are much better off with the “by mail” version if that is available for the course you are taking.
Can I print the online test to work on it at my convenience? Yes. We provide a study guide with this course that has the test questions and answer choices. You can print it off and work on it as you study. When you are ready to take the test, you will log into the system and supply your answers to the test questions.
What happens if I fail the test? Do I have to pay again? No. If you happen to fail our test, you can continue to retest until you do pass at no additional charge.
Do you report our course completions to the NCBTMB, ABMP, AMTA, or any other agencies? None of these agencies have a method for us to report to them on your behalf. They prefer that you provide the evidence of CEs that their renewal process details.
